About Te Waipounamu
Local roots. Shared purpose.
We support a whānau of early learning centres across Christchurch, North Canterbury, Timaru, and Dunedin — each with its own character, all connected by consistent quality and a commitment to tamariki.
Who we are
A South Island teaching whānau.
Te Waipounamu Education is a South Island–based early childhood education group. While every centre has its own unique flavour, we are united by shared values, consistent quality, and a commitment to nurturing tamariki and supporting whānau.
Our name reflects our connection to Te Waipounamu — the whenua beneath us and the communities we serve.
What we’re working towards
Our vision
To create a learning community where kaiako can thrive, tamariki are nurtured, partnerships with whānau are valued, and all feel supported and empowered to grow and achieve their aspirations.
What matters to us
Our values shape our culture.
They guide everyday decisions, relationships, leadership, and the learning environments we create together.

The meaning behind our logo
A shared journey, growing together.
Our logo reflects who we are, where we come from, and our shared journey with whānau. The road represents Te Waipounamu, connecting communities just as our centres connect tamariki to the world around them.
The leaves symbolise our diverse services: each one unique, vibrant, and growing as part of one strong tree.
Honouring Te Tiriti in practice
Grounded in Aotearoa.
Our approach honours Aotearoa’s bicultural foundation. Across our centres, kaiako weave Te Ao Māori, local histories, te reo Māori, and meaningful tikanga into the curriculum alongside the principles and strands of Te Whāriki.
This commitment lives through genuine relationships with tamariki, whānau, hapū, iwi, and local communities, and through an ongoing willingness to listen, learn, and strengthen practice.
